The Chief Executive: A Valid ID Card is required for Peace, Security and Development

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan today introduced Homayoun Muhtat, head of the Central Bureau for Registration Population and Mohammed Wais, technical assistant to the staff of this Bureau.

Dr. Abdullah, at the introducing ceremony of the head and technical assistant of Central Bureau for Registration Population, congratulated them and said distribution of electronic ID cards was one of the important obligations of the National Unity Government that the Afghan people are dreaming its implementation.

The Chief Executive added that the people of Afghanistan will soon have a valid electronic ID card and will be proud of having and using it.

Dr. Abdullah noted that having a valid electronic ID card would be a crucial step for ensuring security, sound administration, fair participation, political and economic development, democracy and other areas.

The Chief Executive reiterated that all necessary measures for distribution of electronic ID cards have been taken in order to officially begin its distribution process in the coming days.

Homayoun Mohtat, head of the Central Bureau for Registration Population appreciated the leadership of the National Unity Government, which made this Bureau non-political, professional and independent. He assured the Chief Executive of implementation of the programs, reforms and rapid distribution of electronic ID cards.

Dr. Abdullah expressed hope that the National Unity Government and the Afghan people would expect the new leadership of this Bureau to proceed with the process of distributing electronic ID cards rapidly and accurately.

The Chief Executive, addressing the officials of the Central Bureau for Registration Population, said, “You assumed to take a great and national responsibility that there should be no negligence, indolence and ambiguity in your work.”

Dr. Abdullah added that Afghanistan is one of the rare countries in which identification was not defined as a daily routine, but rather a question.

The Chief Executive added that the paper ID cards were not valid for domestic and foreign use due to fraudulent and forgery and this is an important issue that should be dealt with fundamentally.

Addressing the new leadership of the Central Bureau for Registration Population, Dr. Abdullah said he hopes that this Bureau advances this national process promptly, accurately, transparently and in close coordination with the people in order to meet the expectations of the Afghan people as they wished.

The Chief Executive, in another part of his speech, praised the ANP and said that the ANP has great responsibility in the current situation; they have effective presence in battlefields besides the rule of law and its implementation.

Dr. Abdullah assured the officials of the Central Bureau of Population Registration of full support of the leadership of the National Unity Government .
