The Chief Executive meets with the World Bank Vice President for the South Asian Region


Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan today met with Annette Dixson, World Bank Vice President for the South Asian region.

At the meeting, the Chief Executive appreciated efforts and activities of World Bank in Afghanistan and expressed hope that the joint cooperation between the Afghan government and the World Bank would be developed in various areas.

Ms. Dixon reported on the World Bank’s plans, activities and efforts in Afghanistan and shared new plans and expansion of the World Bank’s activities with the Chief Executive.

Ms. Dixon said the World Bank is going to increase the number of its employees in Afghanistan and help the Afghan government with the Afghan returnees, internally displaced persons and the private sector.

In another part of her speech, Ms. Dixon added that the World Bank’s development aid has increased globally, and thus Afghanistan would benefit from this.

The Chief Executive emphasized on cooperation of the National Unity Government with the relevant ministries and entities of Afghanistan in implementation of the World Bank’s programs, attention to the requirements of returnees, cooperation with the Central Statistics Office of Afghanistan and focus on economic growth and poverty alleviation programs.
