The German Embassy Will Resume Activities in Afghanistan

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met with Sigmund Gabriel, German Minister of Foreign Affairs, while Salahuddin Rabbani, Foreign Minister of the country was also present.

At the meeting, the Chief Executive welcomed German Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation to Afghanistan and called Germany a friend and brother country with historic relations with Afghanistan. The Chief Executive also appreciated German partnership and its sacrifices for establishment of stability and security in Afghanistan. The Chief Executive also praised continued German diplomatic presence in Afghanistan following a suicide bombing near the German embassy in Kabul as well as continuation of its assistance to Afghanistan.

The German Foreign Minister thanked the Afghan government for its warm hospitality, and calling relations between the two countries friendly, assured of Germany's continued cooperation with Afghanistan in combating terrorism and ensuring security and stability.

Mr. Gabriel said that Germany is giving great importance to its relationship with Afghanistan, and the embassy will soon resume its activities in Afghanistan.

At the meeting, the Chief Executive presented a clear picture of the latest political, security and socio-economic situation of Afghanistan and expressed the National Unity Government’s commitment to providing services, conducting elections and bringing reforms.

German Cooperation Program for Afghanistan, German military cooperation within the framework of Resolute Support Forces, peace talks, regional relations of Afghanistan following the announcement of new US strategy, eradication of terrorism and the sanctuaries of terrorism as well as development of trade were discussed at the meeting.
