The Chief Executive in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan: Construction work of Balkh-Herat Railway Will be Started

The Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met with Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Uzbekistan in his office at the Sepidar Palace.

At the meeting, the Chief Executive welcomed Mr. Kuchkarov to Kabul and expressed satisfaction of improvement and development of relations between the two countries in different areas.

The Chief Executive called Uzbekistan a friendly and brother country with historic and long-standing relationships, and emphasized on the expanding relations, especially in the field of economic-transit and cultural affairs.

Dr. Abdullah added that there are common opportunities and threats in the region and both countries can make use of opportunities and can deal with threats with cooperation.

Expressing gratitude to the Chief Executive and the Afghan government for their warm welcome, Mr. Kuchkarov spoke of opening a new page in relations between the two countries and said: "I have come to Afghanistan to discuss with the Afghan government about practical ways of financing and starting construction work of Balkh-Herat railway which connects Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to the Iranian railway.”

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan stressed that implementation of this plan is of great importance for both countries and could provide a ground for economic growth and development in the region.

The Chief Executive, appreciating the efforts of Uzbekistan in this regard, proclaimed the readiness of the Afghan side to finance and launch this great economic plan, calling implementation of this plan one of the great desires of the people of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

Dr. Abdullah also stressed that Uzbekistan enjoyed a good experience in construction of railways, so this country, in cooperation with Afghanistan, could play a key role in creating major economic development and connecting the region to the South Asian Railway.
