The Leaders of the National Unity Government met with the US Joint Chiefs of Staff

The leaders of the National Unity Government met with General Joseph Dunford, US Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Presidential Palace.

At the meeting, Gen. Joseph Dunford called the aim of his visit to Kabul announcing the US commitment to supporting and training the Afghan security and defense forces.

He added that the United States is serious about implementing its new strategy for South Asia and Afghanistan.

Gen. Dunford praised courage and dedication of the Afghan security and defense forces in combating terrorism, stressing that the United States, as a strategic partner of Afghanistan, would remain with the Afghan government and people in combating terrorism and would support the peace process led and owned by the Afghans.

Welcoming the US Joint Chiefs of staff, President Ghani thanked the United States and NATO for their continued commitment to counter terrorism and their cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields.

Then, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan called the US new strategy on South Asia and Afghanistan important for security and stability of Afghanistan and the region and emphasized on the regional countries’ cooperation for implementing this strategy.

At the meeting, both sides discussed on security in Afghanistan and in the region, fighting against terrorism, peace process and security of elections.
