The Chief Executive Meets with Prime Minister of China

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, met with Li Keqiang, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China.

At the meeting, Chinese PM told the Chief Executive that China wanted peace, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan. He added that China was ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in various fields.

Thanking Chinese PM for his hospitality, the Chief Executive said, “We appreciate your assistance. China and Afghanistan have good, long-lasting relationships and we hope that cooperation between the two countries will further increase.”

Chinese PM added that China supported the National Unity Government as well as its efforts to achieve peace led and owned by the Afghans. Mr. Keqiang also added that his country was ready to help Afghanistan in fighting terrorism.

The Chief Executive appreciated cooperation of China with Kabul University, holding short-term and long-term courses for capacity building in China, import of Afghan saffron and as well as Chinese contribution for confronting drought in Afghanistan.

The Chief Executive presented a clear picture of political-security situation in Afghanistan and announced that parliamentary election in Afghanistan would be held in the coming days. About regional relations, the Chief Executive expressed hope that the new government in Pakistan would help Afghanistan establish peace and stability.

The Chinese Prime Minister said that peace and stability in Afghanistan was dependent on having good relations with Pakistan and Pakistan's cooperation in this regard, and expressed hope that new Pakistani government would improve relationship between the two countries. Mr. Keqiang also said the tripartite meeting between China, Pakistan and Afghanistan would continue and expressed hope that Chinese Foreign Minister's efforts would be fruitful.

In another part of his speech, the Chief Executive called for joint work between the two countries’ chambers of commerce, which could provide the ground with further cooperation between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of China said, “We have nothing just good intention which is proved by our friendly relations with Afghanistan. We want a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan, and we are here to help you in this regard.”
