The Chief Executive: Sustainable Development Goals are to be Consistent with the National Plans

The meeting of the Executive Committee on Sustainable Development Goals was held on Tuesday, 13 November, 2018, under the auspices of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive of the National Unity Government to assess preparations for the Geneva conference.

First, the Ministry of Economy provided a brief account of the undertaken activities in workgroups for Sustainable Development Goals and recent progress made in preparations for the Geneva conference.

While appreciating the actions of the Executive Committee, Dr. Abdullah emphasized on coordination and effectiveness of the programs among the relevant government departments in line with Sustainable Development Goals.

The Chief Executive directed the Ministry of Economy and the Secretariat of the Executive Committee for Sustainable Development Goals to finalize the package of Afghanistan’s operations, programs, and requirements to meet the Goals of Sustainable Development in order to be presented at the Geneva Conference.

Then, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) reported on its capacity building program. According to the report, a number of government employees have been provided with training to make Sustainable Development Goals consistent with the national priority plans.

The UNDP representative said a number of government employees received training during this month, which has been very effective in work improvement.

The Chief Executive emphasized on continuation of these programs within the country and added before, the government staff was sent out of the country for capacity building.

Evaluating work of the Committee, Dr. Abdullah said that more focus should be placed on coordination between working groups of the Committee and government departments.

Representatives from international organizations, the private sector, Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, International Chamber of Commerce as well as representative from the Ministries participated in the program.
