China Plays an Important Role in Afghanistan’s Peace Process

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the National Unity Government met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in his office at the Sepidar Palace.

Appreciating China's cooperation and assistance to the Afghan government and people, the Chief Executive thanked Mr. Wang Yi for the initiative of tripartite meeting of Afghanistan, China and Pakistan.

Dr. Abdullah called China's role positive in peace talks and said, “We hope Beijing will put more pressure on Pakistan to provide the ground for peace talks and force the Taliban to join the peace process.”

The Chief Executive called China’s role constructive and critical in bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan.

Further, Chinese Foreign Minister, while conveying Chinese Chancellor's greetings to the Chief Executive, said “Your role in improving and expanding relations between the two countries has been effective.”

Mr. Wang Yi, while supporting the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, said our goal of a tripartite meeting is to improve the relations between Kabul and Islamabad.

Mr. Wang Yi called terrorism and extremism a common enemy of the people of China and Afghanistan and said that they would stand alongside the Afghan government and people in struggle against terrorism.

It should be mentioned that a memorandum of understanding was signed at the tripartite meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the People's Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, held today in Kabul.

The three sides agreed about a joint struggle on terrorism, support for peace process led and owned by the Afghan people, continued economic cooperation, and not letting terrorists have activity in Afghanistan, China and Pakistan.
