Uzbekistan Continues its Comprehensive Cooperation with Afghanistan

 

Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met Mr. Abdulla Aripov, the Prime minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the 18th Summit of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.

At the meeting, the Uzbek Prime Minister welcomed the Chief Executive to Tashkent and congratulated him and the Afghan people on the successful run-up to presidential election.

PM Aripov said that after meeting with the Chief Executive and listening to the demands of Afghan businessmen, while he was visiting the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, he traveled back to Termez City to take serious steps to resolve the problems of businessmen and commuters between the two countries.

The Uzbek Prime Minister said in a statement that his country is ready to invest in Afghanistan and support it in the construction of the railway and infrastructure. He also assured of the continued provision of scholarships to Afghan students.

Chief Executive Abdullah thanked the Uzbek government for the warm welcome and praised PM Aripov’s visit to Mazar-e-Sharif and his practical efforts to solve the problem of businessmen and people.

The Chief Executive briefed the Uzbek Prime Minister on presidential elections and efforts to achieve peace in Afghanistan and appreciated Uzbekistan’s efforts to bring about peace in Afghanistan.

The Chief Executive also called for the expansion of economic and commercial ties between the two countries and called for joint cooperation of both countries to counter the threat of terrorism and extremism.
