Tajikistan is one of Afghanistan's strategic friends and allies


Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met with Mr. Kokhir Rasulzoda, the Prime Minister of the Tajikistan, on the sidelines of the 18th Summit of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tashkent.

At the meeting, Chief Executive Abdullah praised relations between the two countries and called Republic of Tajikistan a strategic friend and ally of Afghanistan. The Chief Executive thanked Republic of Tajikistan for its cooperation and appreciated special attention of Tajikistan's President Imam Ali Rahman to Afghanistan.

The chief executive briefed the Tajik Prime Minister on elections, efforts for peace, and the latest developments in the country.

The Tajik Prime Minister also praised the good relations between the two countries and emphasized that Afghanistan is one of Tajikistan's close friends and allies. He added that the Joint Commission between the two countries would continue its activities. He said peace and security in Afghanistan is of paramount importance to Tajikistan. Transit, energy transfers and the implementation of large regional plans such as Casa-1000 project depend on security in Afghanistan.

Tajikistan's Prime Minister also expressed hope that economic and trade relations between the two countries would be further enhanced.
