Chief Executive Meets President of US Institute of Peace

 

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah held a meeting with Ms. Nancy Lindborg, President and CEO of the U.S. Institute of Peace, and her accompanying delegation at Sapedar Palace in Kabul.

Chief Executive Abdullah appreciated the institution's attention and assistance to Afghanistan and provided a clear picture of the political and security situation in Afghanistan. The Chief Executive said that peace is one of the priorities of the government and the people of Afghanistan, and we welcome any efforts leading to peace as we embark on the post-election and insuring transparency of election results.

The Chief Executive added that there had been a halt in peace talks and efforts, and that efforts are now under way to resume peace talks.

Ms. Lindborg and her accompanying team expressed their views and questions on election and peace efforts in Afghanistan, emphasizing that Afghanistan is a top priority for the US Institute of Peace programs and that they are keen to pursue and engage in peace discussions in Afghanistan.
