Chief Executive Meets U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation


Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and Mr. Salahuddin Rabbani, Former Foreign Minister held a meeting with Amb. Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, while deputy assistant to U.S. president Ms. Lisa Curtis and U.S. Ambassador John Bess were accompanying him, at Sapedar Palace in Kabul.

The two sides discussed peace talks and the essential measures to achieve a just and enduring peace in Afghanistan. Both sides stressed the importance of achieving a long-lasting peace and called it as a priority for the people and government of Afghanistan as well as the United States. They demanded the Taliban to reduce violence and cease fire to launch inter-Afghan talks again.

The two sides also welcomed the presidential election, stressing the principle of transparency of the elections and the independence of the IEC.
