Italy continues its presence and assistance to Afghanistan

Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met with Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini at Sapedar Palace in Kabul.

Chief Executive Abdullah welcomed Mr. Guerini and his accompanying delegation to Afghanistan and said Italy is one of Afghanistan's longtime friends and allies and described the relations between the two countries as good and intimate.

The Chief Executive continued to thank Italy for its assistance and presence in Afghanistan and said: “Italy is assisting Afghan National Forces in various sectors. The two countries' forces have jointly fought terrorism to secure regional and global peace. Italy has been working with the Afghan government and people on infrastructure, development, cultural and refugee care programs. We thank Italy for these collaborations and hope that this partnership continues.”

The Secretary of Defense thanking the Chief Executive called Afghanistan a close friend of Italy and assured of Italy’s continued presence and assistance to Afghanistan in the NATO framework.

Mr. Guerini added that he had come to Afghanistan to assess the situation closely and to meet with NATO forces and Afghan military officials.

The two sides continued to discuss the presidential election, efforts to achieve peace and Afghanistan's regional relations after the recent tensions.
