The Chief Executive in the ceremony of the National Day of Soldier: Professionality and depoliticization of security agencies are inevitable (Feb 27, 2017)

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan today attended the ceremony of the "National Day of Soldier” which was held at the Ministry of Defense.

In the ceremony, and in presence of the President, senior government officials, generals and officers of security agencies, the Chief Executive said, “Professionality and depoliticization of security agencies are the most important priorities of the National Unity Government.”

Dr. Abdullah considered inserting the Day of Soldier in the calendar, a historic step and congratulated it to the Afghan people, particularly security and defense forces.

Dr. Abdullah said insertion of such a day in the calendar of the country meant respect to struggles and sacrifices of security forces, and made the leaders of the National Unity Government and security officials realize their responsibilities towards them.

The Chief Executive stated that the National Unity Government and the Afghan people would appreciate heroism and sacrifices of security and defense forces.

Dr. Abdullah directed the leadership of security agencies make further attempts to bring fundamental reforms, seriously fight against corruption and address problems of security and defense forces.

According to the Chief Executive, soldiers in trenches of battle should make sure that the government especially the leadership of security agencies fully support them and address their problems.

Thanking Afghanistan's international partners, Dr. Abdullah said their role in the current situation is crucial and important for supporting, equipping and advising the security forces.

The Chief Executive called professionality and depoliticization of security agencies inevitable and said, “Protecting territorial integrity and independence and defending national and religious values are fundamental duties of security agencies.”

He reiterated, “Reform in security forces will ensure the country’s health and success of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism.”

Based on our religious and national values, the Chief Executive said, security forces are in the right position for defending legitimate regime of Afghanistan, and the truth will definitely prevail over the falsehood.

At the end, the Chief Executive instructed security forces to respect regulations and laws of war and humanitarian in the battlefield against the enemy’s captives and wounded, and to cooperate with humanitarian agencies.
